HBO's "
Flight of the Conchords"
returns next Sunday for Season 2, and this time around, fans will be able to purchase music from each episode the day after it airs.
An as-yet-untitled album featuring 10 tracks from the show and five additional songs will be available April 14, shortly after the conclusion of the 10-episode season. The first song, "
Angels,"
goes live January 19 on iTunes. Fans also can preorder the album through Sub Pop (http://www.subpop.com) and receive one track per week.
The New Zealand duo, whose bumbling adventures in life and the music business are at the heart of the show, has emerged as one of the biggest success stories in comedy during the past two years.
Its 2007 Sub Pop debut, the EP "
The Distant Future,"
won a Grammy for best comedy album last year. And its self-titled full-length album, released in April, has sold 237,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and is up for a Grammy in the same category next month.
Because the songs used in the show often are only a minute long, the versions on the album will be quite different.
"
More than one of them leans on a '70s soul sound,"
said Tony Kiewel, head of A&R (artists and repertoire) at Sub Pop. "
I've also heard this choir-y sort of thing, a Meat Loaf-y sort of thing and a crazy top 40-type jam."
Mickey Petralia, who produced the debut, is back on board, while Kiewel said Australian pop singer Sia provides backing vocals on at least one song. A North American tour is being targeted for April or May.

Here's your answer! Well, kind of. " title="" border="0"/>
Source:Songs from the second series will be available on iTunes
Jan 12, 2009
Songs featured in the forthcoming second series of HBO comedy Flight Of The Conchords are set to be made available on iTunes the day after they appear on the show.
The first episode of the second series is set to air in the US on January 18 – with one song from the show, 'Angels', set to be available on American iTunes from January 19.
Once the ten-part series has concluded an album, featuring songs from the show plus five new tracks, will be made available on April 14, reports Billboard.com.
iTunes UK will not be offering the same service when the series debuts in the country in April.
However, a spokesperson for Flight Of The Conchords told NME.COM that the full album may be released in the UK in advance of the series - although this is yet to be confirmed.

It also looks like we have our answer as to when the series may appear on UK TV.
Hopefully, we will get further confirmation from somewhere else, and then we will know for certain when to expect to see it here...

Another article with basically the same info as the one Sam posted, but with an additional tidbit:
Source:... The songs will be produced by Mickey Petralia, who produced Flight Of The Conchords' self-titled full-length debut. It will also feature guest appearances from . ...

Flight of the Conchords Album Details
The comedic Kiwis channel Meat Loaf and collaborate with Sia on their next record.
By Larry Fitzmaurice 01.12.09 10:57 AM
If a sneak peek at the premiere episode is any indication, the second season of New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords' HBO series (premiering Jan. 18) will surely be required viewing in 2009. And judging from details for their follow-up to last year's SPIN-approved debut, it seems like Bret and Jermaine are about to hit us with some required listening as well.
The duo's yet-to-be-titled sophomore record will arrive April 14 via Sub Pop, and according to the Seattle label's A&R head Tony Kiewel, the album will feature even more genre-hopping than their first effort. "
More than one of them [songs] leans on a '70s soul sound,"
he told Billboard.com. "
I've also heard this choir-y sort of thing, a Meat Loaf-y sort of thing, and a crazy top 40-type jam."
Kiewel also said Australian songstress Sia sings on one track.
Luckily, fans won't have to wait until April to hear the new material. Not only will the songs be featured on the Conchords' TV show, but full-length versions will also be available for purchase the day after new episodes are aired, with the first single, "
Angels,"
hitting iTunes Jan. 19. Those who pre-order the album through Sub Pop will receive the singles as they're released, as well as five tracks that won't air on television.
Until then, we can only await the release of "
Angels"
-- and hope that it doesn't sound anything like

Wait, so the extra five songs are going to be on the pre-order through Sub Pop only? Or will they be on the regular album that comes out on April 14th too?

I was just thinking (as usual " title="" border="0"/> ) and have some guesses as to what some of those extra songs may be!
Since 'Bus Driver's Song' and 'Petrov' seem least doable on the show, maybe those?? Of course, there could be new ones, but hopefully those will be on the album. 'Hotties' and 'Nothin' Wrong' also seem like some possibilities...
