Conchords Songs We've Never Heard Empty Conchords Songs We've Never Heard

Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:23 pm
I know they've talked about a couple of their older songs that they don't play anymore.

Sexy Flower

We had a song called ‘Sexy Flower’. It was a love song from me, a man, to a flower. We had one of those battery-operated toy flowers that danced when you made a noise. Jemaine sang the voice of the flower from off stage and I would serenade this dancing plastic flower. We don't play that one anymore. Mainly because we lost the flower.

What's That Strange Smell?

"
Some songs, people just think we're weird,"
McKenzie says. Case in point: the tender ballad "
What's That Strange Smell?,"
in which a husband's nose alerts him that his wife, lying beside him in bed, is dead. "
Pretty disturbing,"
says Clement. "
We don't do that one anymore."

Does anybody remember any others?

Hehe well, Nikki has gotten a hold of a couple of those dancing flowers in hopes that someday a Flighty somewhere will be able to give them to the boys as a gift and maybe inspire them to revive the Sexy Flower song...

I don't know of any other though... at least not that I can remember right now.

I know, right? I love the completely messed-up out-of-left-field songs. Like "
Petrov, Yelyena, and Me"
and to a certain extent "
Bus Driver's Song"
... which they really don't play so much anymore, do they? I think they still do "
Bus Driver's Song"
sometimes, but it seems like they're sort of moving away from songs where they're supposed to be different characters. Even stuff like "
Jenny"
and "
Robots"
are still kind of variations on the same theme.

I dunno. Wild mass guessing.

The first time I heard that I didn't believe that was Bret singing. I had to listen a couple times.

Bus Driver's Song was played at almost every show on the tour. And Petrov, Yelyena and Me made a comeback at the end (they played it at the last few shows).

That's one of my absolute favorite Conchords songs, and I know so many people that don't like it.

That is definitely a Bret song. Bret = surreal or dark and surreal.

If you sing that song, I promise I won't judge you!

Yeah ... we got "
Bus Driver's Song"
and "
Petrov, Yelyena, and Me."
They said it was the first time they'd played "
Petrov"
in 5 years (I might be getting the number of years wrong). It was awesome.

And "
Petrov"
is the reason we got to hear Bret say he would eat his way out of a ladybug! ;
D

As Ami mentioned, I have two vintage dancing flowers in excellent condition. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) I can give them to the guys when I go to NY. ;
D

That was my immediate thought too. That and I need to hear the song.

Bret did say five years, but he sounded really hesitant. Like they hadn't played it in so long even he wasn't sure how long it had been. And they played it so early in the set too! You'd think that they'd save a song like that for the encore or something, but it was the third song they played.

*JEALOUS OF SAN FRAN PEOPLE*

I wanted so badly for them to play Bus Driver's Song when I went to see them. I wanted it so badly that I just KNEW they weren't going to play it and I was going to be disappointed about it on that looooong bus ride home. But they played it and I nearly died from the happy. Such a good memory. Smile

A few years back, like 2003 or so I saw them as part of a comedy fest thingamibob (It was the first time I'd seen them, and they were probably the highlight) and they played "
Think About It"
and another one havn't heard since, and I can only remember one line

"
And if laughter is the best medecine,
Try telling that to a kid with cancer..."

I nearly died laughing on that one, thats why I remember it. It was so beautifully horrible. So...Anyone know which one it was?

omg. petrov = a fav! when they played it at the Orpheum my heart nearly jumped out of my chest, I was so excited;
yay songs about cannibalism + yay Jem's silly Russian accent
(btw, references to "
armfish"
find their way into some of my conversations in the most random ways...)

We've never heard "
The Washing Song"
either.

Or "
The Scientist and the French Teacher"

So that's a total of three, right? [image]

I really want to hear "
What's That Strange Smell?"
It sounds like it could be a Bret song. <img src=" title="Razz" border="0"/>

ADD: Oops ... four:

"
