[size=133:qksuk55v]Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement has been set to play the villainous Yaz in Men in Black III, the sequel that is being fast-tracked by Columbia Pictures. Will Smith stars with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, and Barry Sonnenfeld directs.

Clement will next be seen starring with Steve Carell in Dinner For Schmucks, the Jay Roach-directed DreamWorks comedy that Paramount distributes July 23. While HBO didn't renew their series, Flight of the Conchords partners Clement and Bret McKenzie have been touring around the world and have sold out most venues.

was originally something no one really welcomed, including the actors involved in the previous films. The first one was a barely-amusing "
Ghostbusters"
riff, while the sequel demonstrated every single sign of excess a second installment could showcase. Furthermore, Sony apparently didn't make as much as they would have hoped on part 2 thanks to hefty back-end deals with the talent involved.

That didn't stop "
Rush Hour 3,"
of course, and so it looks like it won't stop "
Men In Black 3D."
Jemaine Clement of "
Flight of the Conchords"
is the first non-toplining talent to join the cast, confirming long-held rumors that tabbed him and Josh Brolin for roles in the film - no word on Brolin's involvement, however. Clement will be playing a villain named Yaz, a synthpop duo from Essex who released two albums before putting out a best-of compilation. Or maybe his Yaz will be totally unrelated to the popular band. Clement can sing, so there's that.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are returning, which still surprises us, since this seemed like a franchise poised for a reboot. Smith, who trails only Jeremy Davies as the biggest actor in the world, can write his own check in Hollywood, so with his infinite choice of projects, why would he revisit this series? And with "
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,"
it looked like the increasingly ornery Jones had left his paycheck days behind. Clement, meanwhile, has a high profile role in "
Dinner For Schmucks"
coming out, and seems to be a bright guy, so we do hope he's being handsomely compensated. Hopefully with a remastered Yaz boxed set.

Jemaine… Present! It would appear that Jemaine Clement has gone from being on the producers’ “possible” list for a role in Men In Black III to part of the cast.

According to Deadline, the Flight Of The Conchords star is now in place as Yaz, the Big Bad of the third film that has hit the warp speed button to production for a May 25, 2012 release date.

The threequel will see agents Jay (Will Smith) and Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) travelling back in time to sort out some intergalactic menace). Along the way, they apparently meet up with a younger version of Kay (Josh Brolin, assuming he locks in a deal).

Etan Cohen penned the script that got Sony excited to finally make the thing, with David Koepp polishing the shooting draft and Barry Sonnenfeld preparing to shoot it in 3D.

Clement is slowly notching up a healthy series of roles, having cropped up in last year’s Gentlemen Broncos and this year’s summer comedy Dinner For Schmucks. You’ll also be able to hear his voice in CGI ‘toon Despicable Me.

And though Jemaine and co-Conchord Brett McKenzie won’t be making another series of their HBO series (boo!), the boys are currently on tour (hooray!).

[size=100:a20mab0l]“Flight of the Conchords” star Jemaine Clement is in final negotiations to play one of the villains in Columbia’s “Men in Black 3.”

Will Smith recently signed his deal to return as the alien-chasing government agent, as did returning director Barry Sonnenfeld.

Most of the action is taking place in 1969, with Josh Brolin playing a young Tommy Lee Jones, who will bookend the movie.

Most of the new casting will be the villains, whose identities, look and super-abilities are being kept under lock and key. It is known that Clement is playing a villain named Boris, who is described as being charmy and creepy at the same time. (The name Yaz was used as a filler name, and since the script is still being polished, there is a chance the name may change again.)

The CAA-repped Kiwi made a name for himself as one-half of the comedic singing duo in HBO’s “Conchords” and has been slowly making inroads into features. He appeared in the little-seen “Gentlemen Broncos” and has a role in the Steve Carrell-Paul Rudd comedy “Dinner for Schmucks.”

I'm with you Chloe. While I'm confident Jemaine won't suck I'm not so confident about the movie itself. I've only seen the first one and it was enough for me not to have an interest in seeing the second one. :-\

in the film. Columbia Pictures is backing the picture, which stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. Barry Sonnefeld will be the man behind the lens.

Sources tell Coffin Case Horror that the film will soon be lensing in New York City where soundstages are already being constructed, along with the possibility of a Chicago shoot as well. The massive production will be in 3D and should begin lensing soon.
