FOTC: The Video Games!

Ha ha, go for it. I'm finally home and I'm still composing my thoughts.

Yay okay!

Bret: Had never heard of it - BUT was super excited about it and even asked Michael about putting it on their website!

Jemaine: Had seen it, and even played season one. He said, "
I have this on my laptop...and I have it on my desktop"
and then talked about what a great game it was.

And it's adorable that Jem installed it on both of his computers.

I'm still kicking myself for leaving the CDs in the car, but it's okay if he's played it. And I gave Bret my business card!

Bret is a Mac guy, so probably why he hasn't given any feedback yet.... ;

I remember he brought up a laptop and a desktop. So either he said laptop AND desktop, or he said laptop and then amended while you were saying how it made your day by saying desktop instead.

But I remember he brought up both...because I was sponging up everything he said at this point

He could have been referring to the desktop of his laptop.

Well, our computer conversation went something like this - he said he hadn't seen the game, which didn't surprise me since he's on record as not being a big computer/internet/MySpace fan:

Me: Oh, I know, you're not really the computer guy.
Bret: Well, I do know how to use a computer.
Me: (laughs to cover up the fact that he probably thinks I think he's computer illiterate)

That's pretty cool.

The complete game soundtracks are finished - I'll be putting them on the actual game page of my website shortly, but you can download them right now:




Some fun music facts:

I created all the music using FruityLoops Studio 4.1, using samples to give the game a retro sound. First, I tried to use actual video game samples but they sounded terrible. I also flirted with making MIDI tunes but they didn't sound right either. Most of the songs I composed from memory (scary, huh?) but for some I had to listen to the originals over and over again to get them exactly right. I tried to match the exact tempo of the originals whenever possible.

Some tunes were harder than others - I composed "
Boom"
for the first game, but it didn't sound right so I left it out. I eventually fixed it and used it in the second game. "
Freaky"
was also a royal pain to turn into a workable melody.

A few of the tracks ("
Run Amok"
, "
Evicted"
, "
Bonus Round Prize Money"
) were original compositions that I'll be releasing on my "
Original Themes"
Vol. 6 CD.

I have Bad Atom's games saved on a disk! They're adorable! I haven't played them much... I suck so badly at video games, and I can't play as Bret because when he dies (which is invariably), I die. But I still love them.

I'm still very sad I can't play this on my mac
