Jemaine a had delirious kinda grin on his face in parts of this ep, a look I don't remember from other ones. When he's opening and closing the window, plus throwing the sheep etc at the end.

Man those sheep can run. In the closing shots, they look like that Centipede game.

Yes, I think it's a grin of relief...

After two agonizing days, I finally saw the finale.

(Emotional Rollercoaster)

Very satisfying. Nice Closure. The music was lacking for me, but I'm not a big fan of Petrov [image] .

The whole musical idea reminded me a lot of Its Always Sunny and Philadelphia and the impromptu music numbers reminded me of Spaced:

But I really enjoyed the episode and loved what they did with Mel and Doug's characters.

What a great show.

I can't embed, and this is a song I don't like, but the video really reminds me of Petrov, I mentioned it earlier, but didn't post the link.

Someone's posted the video of the opening musical montage on YouTube and it is the perfect cut! I've watched it no less than a dozen times, and I still giggle. I think I've found my new happy place. ;<br />D

Murrayland - Just click on the little red Tube button in the posting window and then pop your youtube link between the two tags.

Instant embed of video. Smile

No, Sony disabled embedding of this clip.

I normally would, but it won't let me.

Just wanted to thank all of you who have posted the various articles, vids and pics here. I love each and every one. Not to mention the regular posts. So many of my feelings expressed by y'all.

As for the ending of the show, [image] for me, but [image] [image] [image] [image] to the guys. What a glorious ride they took us on, eh? And what a way to end it--home again, playing music for the mere enjoyment of it--and having no regrets. PERFECT!

I think someone asked what Murray said to the guys when he was riding the tractor. I didn't "
get it"
the first time, but on 2nd (or maybe 3rd or 4th viewing ;
)) I think he says, "
Good shepherding today, guys."

I will be seeing the guys for the first time when they come to Nashville. I am mega excited.

I'm sad to see the show go, as I said, but know that they need/want to focus on other things-(like wives and babies!)-and rest from that exhausting routine. I wonder how long they will take after the tour before jumping headlong into something else?

What are the chances of seeing Jemaine and Taika's show in the States? Think it might be a youtube, situation?

Here's wishing them success in every aspect of their lives!

You are most welcome, tanfastic!

So, how in the world do you all get the little moving vids for your avatars and sigs? I've never, ever seen anything like it. Are y'all computer whizzes or something? I'm simply amazed!

Answering for tanfastic. Hope you don't mind. Smile

The gif makers of the board - myself, Laura and Sara - make them.

Would you like one?

I normally offer to make one for all the newbies who post a Welcome thread, but I forgot to mention it for you. Sorry. [image]

If you let me know your favourite moments(s) that you would like in your sig - I'll make them for you.

It might be easiest to pop your request(s) in your Welcome thread, so we don't clutter up this thread.

We may have already made your favourite moment in one of our two gif threads - "
Conchords gifs"
and "
The Season 2 gif thread"
. If you let me know your requests, I'll soon know if we have already made them. ;<br />D

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I've decided here. <img src=" title="Razz" border="0"/>

[size=150:9ekzfz22]Flight of the Conchords: Season 2 Review
[size=100:9ekzfz22]Next verse same as the first?

by Matt Fowler

[size=100:9ekzfz22]March 30, 2009 - Season 2 of Flight of the Conchords starts off with a direct continuation of the Season 1 finale, with Murray (Rhys Darby) reaching new heights of success with his awful, yet immensely popular, new act The Crazy Dogggz. I wasn't sure if this was the kind of show that would actually carry on the storyline from its previous silly and surreal season capper, since I would have been just fine with things returning back to normal as if nothing ever happened. Sue me, but Conchords never struck me as a show that was beholden to its own zany story arcs – especially since the finale to Season 1 felt like it could have been a series finale. It really did seem like they wrote it without a Season 2 in mind. But here we go again - with a second season of low key wackiness that finds our favorite hapless Kiwi twits back as the beloved and impoverished folk duo.

Conchords is at its zany best when they're not trying to be overly-zany. I live for the moments in Murray's office when our three main characters get together and compare inane propositions. I think I really appreciate the notion that the three of them can be living in one of the most sophisticated and metropolitan places on the globe and yet they're still be hard pressed to understand the most basic things about human nature. New Zealand is portrayed as not only comically "
behind the times,"
but apparently all of its denizens have the mental acumen of a fifth grader that's about to be held back a year. And, let's face, just about anything Murray says is funny. There are occasions when we'll run into other characters that act as surrogate "
adults,"
but they don't stick around very long. Lucy Lawless portrayed Paula in "
NewZealandTown"
came off as a more grown up and "
together"
adult New Zealander, and yet in the end, even she thought the pathetic New Zealand-themed street was a big success.

This season tended to focus a lot more heavily on Bret (Bret McKenzie) and Jemaine's (Jemaine Clement) romantic exploits and misadventures. I'm not saying that Season 1 didn't have these stories as well, but in Season 2 there seemed to be less focus on The Conchords trying to make it as a band. We got snippets of band-centric, or at least success-related stories in the season opener "
A Good Opportunity"
and then again in the season finale "
Evicted"
– but in between there were just a ton of stories involving "
having girlfriends,"
or the "
attempt to get a girlfriend."
I just felt like we'd already covered a lot of this stuff back in Season 1 with the characters of Coco, Sally, and the "
new fans."
I know I already mentioned that the show didn't need to feel the need to make sense as far as continuity was concerned, but I do still expect it to have consistency. The Bret that we saw in "
Wingmen"
was definitely not the guy who easily landed Coco as a girlfriend back in "
Bret Gives Up the Dream."
And the Bret and Jemaine we saw in "
Same Girl"
weren't the dudes we saw in "
Sally Returns."
Yes, there were still funny moments, but they only came through the de-evolving of the characters from being just dim, to being completely inept and useless.

I really enjoy the character of Dave (Arj Barker), who is almost this show's way of stating that you don't have to be from a "
backwards"
country to have a head full of crazy and hilarious notions and dumb advice. Dave talks to The Conchords as the voice of a "
real man"
and the voice of "
America"
– and he shouldn't really be representing either. It's quite divine. The character of Mel is back and still clinging to the same joke;
her sexual obsession with Bret and Jemaine. It's really gotten to be a bit tiresome, although I did like the role that she and her husband Doug (David Costabile) played in the finale "
Evicted."
If only she could have been gone for, say, the whole season and then shown up on the finale. That would have been choice.

All in all Season 2 was funny, but it didn't feel like a fully realized vision like Season 1 did. It all felt like an extension of something really great, that doesn't really hold up on its own. The songs were not as fun or engaging, although there were a few standouts, like "
Carol Brown,"
"
Hurt Feelings"
and "
Sugarlumps."
Mostly though, it was hit or miss. There were a few pre-existing songs leftover from the boys concert days that they inserted into the proceedings, namely "
Angles"
and "
Petrov, Yelyena and Me."
But I can't write a review of this season without mentioning my disappointment in the episode "
NewZealandTown,"
which was basically an entire set-up for the Conchord's pre-existing "
Bus Driver Song"
- only to have them not do the song in what was left as a "
one song show."

Some of the standout episodes this season were "
A Good Opportunity,"
"
The New Cup,"
"
Unnatural Love,"
and of course "
Prime Minister."
The addition of Brian Sergent as "
Brian, The Prime Minister"
made for some very funny moments. Finally, someone who could seamlessly integrate into the group as a strong fourth. His best dynamic was that he was as clueless as Murray and the rest of them, but that he had to be made to feel that he was right.

2x10 'Evicted' - Page 9 Empty 2x10 'Evicted'

[size=150:9mvzsu8h]FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS 2.10 – "
Evicted"

Sunday, March 29, 2009

[size=100:9mvzsu8h]Spoilers. I've definitely enjoyed the second season of FoTC more than the first (or softened to its charms), as most episodes kept a head above the waterline of average, with a few stinkers and an equal number of gems. "
Evicted"
wasn't particularly memorable, but it did contain some fun moments and worked as a farewell for these characters, as this is (allegedly) the last ever episode...

Jemaine (Jemaine Clement) and Bret (Bret McKenzie) are evicted from their apartment after failing to pay their rent – or, rather, they paid it in New Zealand dollars. News of their destitution hasMurray (Rhys Darby) dusting off a script he's written for an emergency musical based on Bret and Jemaine's lives, following them from humble Kiwi shepherds to Broadway stars. More practically, Mel (Kristen Schaal) gives Bret and Jemaine a place to stay at her house with beleagured boyfriend Doug (David Costabile), overly-enjoying being so close to the men she worships.

"
Evicted"
was at its best whenever Mel was around in this episode, as her obsession with the Conchords darkens even further: she imposes house rules on them (don't leave the house), tucks Bret into bed so tightly he can't move, turns up the heating so Jemaine may have to show some flesh, and locks their bedroom door at night. Doug himself, revealed to be a gifted harp player, finally begins to fray at the seams (in his own quiet way), resulting in an amusing "
divorce"
with Bret and Jemaine essentially playing the roles of their children.

The idea of the Conchords acting on-stage in an embellished musical based on their "
rags-to-rags"
lives was also a fine one, but beyond a few fun moments in the resulting homespun stage production, it was something of a disappointment considering the potential for meta-comedy. Snapshots of the play looked very funny (I particularly like the multiple dancing Murrays), but the episode didn't really do this idea full justice.

The music this week was okay – most notably a Stomp-style sequence of Bret and Jemaine making music around their apartment after waking up in the morning. Shades of Morecambe & Wise's morning dance to "
The Stripper"
, too. It made a change to see the pair having fun together in a musical interlude that wasn't a fantasy sequence. And, having later drawn attention to their illegal immigrant status in their poorly-received play (attended by Murray's Embassy chums), the Conchords are flown back to New Zealand to become simple shepherds again. In the final moment, Bret and Jemaine once again make music on objects in their field – neatly showing us how they probably got interested in music to begin with.

Overall, "
Evicted"
ended the season (and perhaps the show) on a decent note: Mel rekindled her love for Dave after his harp-playing was given a showbiz context during the musical, and the Kiwi threesome returned to their motherland after trying, but failing, to make it big in the Big Apple. I'm sure a third season would be possible, but there was something fitting about the circular nature of this finale. Season 2 was undoubtedly a stretch for Clement and McKenzie in terms of producing memorable music, so I'd hate to see a third season grind to a halt in the comedy stakes, too. A famous rule of showbiz is to "
leave the audience wanting more"
, so maybe the Flight Of The Conchords should take heed, before they outstay their welcome?
