Here in Saskatchewan we have a lovely hub cap fence.

It's quite long and I bet it's up to well over 50 hub caps. [image]

[size=150:tfcn3p2u]Favorite Funny Bands
[size=100:tfcn3p2u]From Spinal Tap to Flight of the Conchords, we highlight our comedy music faves.
by IGN Music

[size=100:tfcn3p2u]June 18, 2009 - The release of Spinal Tap's new album, Back From the Dead, has us pondering the magic that often happens when music and comedy meet. When a band strives to rock and be hilarious at the same time the result can be epic.

We've highlighted some choice funny bands below, and hope you'll chime in with your own faves in the comments. Check it...

The Lonely Island

Comedians Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone began as a skit-oriented comedy troupe but soon found their niche in musical hilarity. After coming to the attention of Saturday Night Live head-dude Lorne Michaels they created the "
Lazy Sunday"
video, and the rest is history.

Subsequent hits like "
Dick in a Box"
and "
Jizz in My Pants,"
which were also produced as digital shorts for SNL, made The Lonely Island a wildly popular as the videos circulated online. This success prompted the group to make their hit record Incredibad, which peaked at #13 on the Billboard charts. On the album, the group collaborated with big names like T-Pain, Norah Jones, Jack Black, Chris Parnell and Justin Timberlake.

While the group continues to work on other projects that are not music related, the popularity of Incredibad all but ensures that they'll fully embrace their new musical direction.

Spinal Tap

Spinal Tap is a spoof metal band created for the 1984 mock-rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. The group is comprised of comic actors Michael McKean (performing as David St. Hubbins), Christopher Guest (as Nigel Tufnel), and Harry Shearer (as Derek Smalls).

While the band's fictional discography stretches to over a dozen releases, they've only released three actual albums -- one just this week -- but that hasn't stopped them from rising to pop culture icon status and transcending the definition of a mere parody band.

Spinal Tap will support their new album, Back From The Dead, with a one date "
world tour"
at London's Wembley Arena on June 30. They'll also play the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

Tenacious D

Jack Black and Kyle Gass formed Tenacious D in 1994, after performing together in the L.A. theater troupe The Actors' Gang during the late '80s/early '90s. The pair get their name from the term used by sports commentator Marv Albert to describe solid defensive play in basketball.

The D rose to notoriety in 1997 when they landed an HBO series. And while the show was short-lived, the duo found success with their 2001 self-titled debut album which peaked at #33 on the Billboard 200.

Black and Gass would attempt to take the big screen by storm with 2006's Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, and while the film failed to perform well commercially, it was a hit with fans. Meanwhile, the D further upped their cred by having the song "
Master Exploder"
featured in Rock Band 2's main set list, and "
The Metal"
appear in Guitar Hero III.

The Blues Brothers

Formed in the late '70s by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, The Blues Brothers were no joke. Created as part of a Saturday Night Live sketch, the pair, who performed in character as brothers Jake and Elwood Blues, became known not just for their occasionally goofball antics, but also for legitimate blue-eyed soul.

The Blues Brothers recorded their first album, Briefcase Full of Blues, in 1978. It hit #1 and ultimately went double platinum. Their place as a permanent fixture in pop culture would be assured with the 1980 film based around the band. But the success was cut short by Belushi's drug-related death in 1982.

The Blues Brothers have continued to perform, however, with a rotation of guest singers including Jim Belushi (as Zee Blues) and John Goodman ("
Mighty"
Mack McTeer). The latter appeared in the 1998 movie sequel Blues Brothers 2000.

Flight of the Conchords

Off-beat Kiwi comedians Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement are Flight of the Conchords. The duo formed in the late '90s and developed a small but loyal following in New Zealand and Australia. FOTC would begin to receive international recognition when HBO featured them on their One Night Stand comedy series, a bit of early success that foreshadowed the pair's later success on the network as the stars of their own self-titled series.

Flight of the Conchords have a decidedly indie vibe, but have produced musical comedy gems that dabble in funk, dance, alt-rap, and more. It's this mastery of musical styles that no-doubt contributed to the group being awarded a Grammy in 2008 for their Distant Future EP. Their self-titled album that followed would climb as high as #3 on the U.S. charts.

FOTC's second studio album, I Told You I Was Freaky is due out in late June on Sub Pop.

I don't know how true the thing about Spinal Tap only releasing three actual albums is, including the new one. My brother has a copy of "
Break Like the Wind"
that we found in a used bookstore years ago, and then there's the soundtrack to the movie, but it seems like there was another...

[size=150:pkle7tm4]What's your picnic personality?

[size=100:pkle7tm4]Good news: summer's here. Let's pretend that the weather this year will be glorious, and to celebrate we're going to do something that epitomises a great British summer: we're going to have a picnic. Not a barbeque – a proper picnic. But one person's lavish al fresco lunch is another's cheese sandwich by the motorway. So what kind of picnic personality do you possess? Take our quiz to find out:

1. It’s looking to be a glorious summer’s day and ripe for a picnic. Who are you going to bring along?

*It’s either a family affair with Mum, Dad, the kids and the dog. Or perhaps just you and your other half doing something romantic.

*You ring everybody you know. You start a group on Facebook. You tweet #picnic. This is a social event not to be missed.

*You’re more than happy on your own with some lovely food and a good book.

2. The next step is to acquire a hamper. What do you use?

* A proper wicker one of course, complete with gingham lining, a lid that flips out on either side and even has the little straps to keep your real plates and silver cutlery safe.

* The cool box you got free as part of a supermarket promotion a few years ago.

* Whatever comes to hand – a rucksack or supermarket carrier bag should do the trick nicely.

3. So now you’ve got something in which to carry your nosh – what’s going in it?

* The best crusty French bread, fine paté and hummus, crackers with a selection of smelly cheeses, and a quiche Lorraine. Oh, and strawberries and cream for dessert – all washed down with Champagne or Pimms. Or both.

* An eclectic mix of goodies from around the globe: pasta, salad, sandwiches, spring rolls, onion bhajis, mini sausages, scotch eggs and a wide range of crisps, dips, and fizzy drinks and booze. Food to suit all tastes.

* Something simple but delicious – lovely fresh fruit, tasty sandwiches and perhaps some crisps and dips and a thirst-quenching drink.

4. Unless you plan on standing and eating, you’re going to need something on which to park yourself. What do you bring?

* A traditional picnic blanket: preferably tartan or gingham, and perhaps with a nice waterproof base (just in case).

* Beach towels, fold away chairs and the cushions and throw from the back of the sofa. Anything you can sit on, basically.

* You’ll be happy with a park bench or a nice dry patch of grass. Why get stressed bringing more than you really need?

5. British summer weather is not to be trusted. What’s your contingency plan in case of rain?

* Stay at home – you can’t have a picnic in the rain, so you’ll wait for another, sunnier day.

* It’s OK – if it starts to pour you can huddle under the garden gazebo an enterprising friend has brought along and break out the deck of cards. The weather won’t get the better of you!

* Move the coffee table out of the way and sit on the floor in the living room. Having to use a bit of imagination won’t spoil your picnic fun.

6. You’ve arrived for your lovely summer picnic and are about to set up for lunch. Where’s the prime location?

* In a picturesque park, under the shade of an old oak tree and a stone’s throw from the lake. Bliss.

* The local park or common – as long as there’s plenty of space for some fun and games, you’re a happy picknicker.

* You’ll be just at home in any spot of sun you can find – whether it’s in the local park by the swings, a quiet field or even a bench in the high street.

7. You’ve tucked into your food and you’ve drunk your drink. Now it’s time to enjoy the pleasure of being outside. What do you do?

* Sit back and relax with the papers or a good book and perhaps a little bit of Radio 4 on the transistor … and drift off into a gentle snooze.

* Anything that involves running about far too much (considering you’ve just eaten) but is great fun all the same. Rounders tournament, anyone?

* Simply enjoy the outside. People-watching and having a natter with anyone who’ll listen.

[size=133:pkle7tm4]8. And finally: if you could invite a celebrity to join you on your picnic, who would you choose from the following?

* Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall – a perfect choice: not only would he bring fantastic grub, he’d know the ideal picnic spot down by River Cottage.

* Flight of the Conchords – who better to keep you entertained with some lovely comedy songs while you while away the afternoon and early evening?

*Ray Mears – he could settle down for a picnic without even bringing a hamper: a quick forage and he’ll have a decent meal ready in moments.
