Yes. If we set deadlines and assign jobs before the weekend.

I think the first deadline should be to see who's going to participate. To see how many squares we're going to have which will determine how big the quilts will be and how long they will take to put together.
ADD: This will also help to determine how big the squares should be.

If we move fast, I think yes. A square can take a weekend to design, if not a day, depending on how crazy you get. Once we get logistics settled (in a couple of days hopefully) we can set a deadline for square sending (to reach quilter no later than April 10th?).
If not...

And for square size, we have to remember to cut squares bigger than how they'll show for the final quilt since the edges get sewn in.

Will all of the squares be cotton / cotton blend? Does it matter?

Hmm...not sure, but it's probably best if the fabric is pre-shrunk? So the cut size is the size it will be after washing.hellomyfriend wrote:Will all of the squares be cotton / cotton blend? Does it matter?
I'm not sure, but maybe people wash the squares prior to quilting?

I would think they could be made of anything. To me, the more variety the more awesome. " title="" border="0"/>
That's just me though.

Yeah I would say that a 1/4 -1/2 in seam allowance all around would be good
How big should the squares be? O_o

I would love variety, but using velvet as your base will probably not be so good for putting it together. You could use velvet on parts of the design, I think. I'd have to look more into that...hopefully the quilter, when recruited, will have better insight.
Keep the base preshrunk cotton.
I think a good deadline for a list of participators should be between Sunday, March 15th and Monday, March 16th.

I kinda want to participate, but am thwarted by my lack of quilt-making ability, plus I have no idea where I'd find fabric squares, let alone fabric markers. . I also have no idea how I'd design the squares either.

I think that sounds good.
Do you want to add that to your original post maybe? For people who are just joining us. That way it's easier to spot?

Micheals! " title="" border="0"/>
You don't really need to try and find perfect squares. You could just get some fabric cut to whatever sizes we need OR just buy one piece of fabric, enough to cut your own squares. Everything else should be easy to find at any fabric/craft store.

Chloe, all you'd need to do is go to a fabric store and have them cut a square (size to be determined) of your fabric of choice. Then decorate it however you want. Fabric stores sell fabric markers. You could even use iron-on adhesive to decorate with other fabrics (or sew them on).chloe wrote:I kinda want to participate, but am thwarted by my lack of quilt-making ability, plus I have no idea where I'd find fabric squares, let alone fabric markers. . By the way, the Michael's stores here don't sell fabric (maybe it's different for everyone). Joann's does, though!

Hmm. . I don't think I could take part in this: I have no idea what I want to do, plus I don't sew. I lack absolutely the slightest speck of talent or skill in *ANYTHING textile-related* so I doubt I could come up with something good.
