There is the same 1970's Soviet bass guitar that Jemaine plays on the show with the lovely green pick guard for sale on eBay, however it's got no strings, so to quote Murray "

Just curious, is it just a show prop or has he actually played it in a concert anywhere?

That would be absolutely awesome for a costume or like, a photoshoot. XD

I wish I had even anywhere near that much money. You can always put strings on it anyway.

That's an interesting observation. The guitar seems to be real. It looks like [url=Kavkaz]. But I don't remember seeing it live. Jemaine plays bass in this video, but it's not the same guitar:

I can think of only two reasons why this bass guitar appears in the show but not live:

1. In the show, New Zealand is presented as the country still living in the 70s. Kavkaz is from the late 70s. Most of the FOTC's instruments are from the 70s, so it suits the whole idea of the show. In some way Kavkaz IS a show prop.

2. La Patrie that Jemaine has been playing live (and in the show) for many years has got really good bass sounds and it replaces bass guitar well. It's lighter and he can play on it more sounds than just bass.


But this is my thinking. Ask Jemaine yourself. I'm good at encouraging people to write him questions on MySpace that he usually answers but afraid to ask myself in fear he won't answer me .

I hate to say it,but that is a really ugly bass.
This thread is amazing,by the way.
