Okay, so it's after 7:00am and I can not sleep.
Here's my take on the lyrics to Murray's new song which I will call 'Rejected' (please correct me where I'm wrong)
Rejected
Thrown away
Affected
I don't know what to say
Ejected
Cast out to the sea
Disconnected
They didn't want me (aww!)
Unprotected
like a baby in the snow
Dejected
like a cloud without a storm
I objected
pretended I was unaffected
I still ended up rejected
Like a cake shop without any cakes
Like a cornflake box without any flakes
Left all alone in the world
like a little orphan girl
who's been neglected
Feel like I'm cut into two
or bisected
(can't make out this line at all)
or trajected
treated as though I was infected
Disrespected
and rejected
So cute!!!!!!

Jemaine is so adorable. Murray didn't know who R. Kelly was. Bret had some hot woven pants.

Holy crap, Sarah. That is AWESOME!
I liked the episode... I don't love it yet, but I need to watch again.... and believe me, I will... many times.
Bret's missing shoe and woven pants were too funny (and ridiculously cute!) The toothpaste thing kind of made me cringe at first. Also, Greg Proops wasn't nearly as funny as the radio show. He was hysterical on that.
I also expected to hear Hurt Feelings, so that will give me even more to look forward to.

I know this is a heresy, but....I thought this ep was awful. It had all the bleakness of the last episode of season 1 and none of the manic sprightliness of their better turns from Season 1. Their musical interludes have always worked best when they rise organically out of the plot, sort of as the well-spoken poetic ids of the characters. Angels was just sort of tacked on, not the inner voice of anyone. I see the attempt to connect Murray's song to his firing, but it really didn't work for me -- why exactly was he upset to be cut loose from the Conchords -- let alone OPERATICALLY upset about it? Also, this storyline was basically a rehash of the "
Whambi"
BBC episode. It was more effectively done the first time around, I'm afraid.
I have a lot of faith in the characters of Bret and Jemaine, but I wish they'd get Taika to direct and Duncan Sarkies to write and let them do their own sweet thing on camera. I was happy to see that neither one of them seemed cocky or cool on screen -- I was afraid that success would have changed their personas to be a bit less likable. But please, please, get a hold of Taika and Duncan and save me the pain of watching another ep this bad!

Just a quick observation that made my little Conchord geek heart beat faster...
The song that they are playing in the bar is as far as I can make out called "
Rock Beat"
.
Didn't Bret and Jemaine say in one interview, that the first song they ever wrote was called "
Rock Beat"
, and that it wasn't very good...
Be still my Conchord geek heart...
(Will try to find the interview source later on...)

Thanks for all the song updates, esp Amily for the Murray lyrics(he's now an opera singer). I loved the episode. Is underscore your middle name? Just come to the office. These pants are man made. Loved the end where Murray rests his head on the desk. Overall, I liked the focus on Murray. Tho I'm assuming the next ones won't be as much on him, cause in this they had to bring him back in. Loved Mel and hubby. In the non-spoiler dept, when they ran the scenes from last season, I either forgot or didn't notice before -- Demitri saying "
Todd and I are gonna start a new band without Jerome."
How about the pool scene w/Dave. !!!!!!!!

I can dig what you're shoveling a little.
But you have to remember that Jem and Bret probably never thought that they would get a second season when they did the first series. I think this episode was transitional and they had to sqeeze in as much as they could to explain everything going back to normal.
I think Murray was upset because meeting with Jemaine and Bret is the best part of his day. I don't think any amount of money would change that about his character.
I can't remember if Taika is directing this season or not, but I love seeing Jemaine and Bret through his eyes. No one captures them quite like him.
I loved 'Angels"
. Even if it was sort of thrown on at the end. I guess it's hard to have all their songs worked in so smoothly. But it worked for me.
I appreciate your objective view, but I'm totally biased on them. " title="" border="0"/>
